Card payments with Stripe

Set up card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay, see your payouts and handle refunds and disputes.

How it works

Customers can pay your pay link by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The money goes through Stripe to your own bank account; WorkWise never holds your money. Direct Debit and Pay by Bank are separate and run through GoCardless (see Direct Debit with GoCardless).

Stripe takes its card fee from each payment. WorkWise adds no fee of its own on top. Your fee depends on the card type, and Stripe's pricing page lists it.

Setting up

  1. Open Payments and look at the Get paid checklist, or go to Settings, then Payments.
  2. Press Set up card payments. It takes about five minutes: Stripe will ask for your details, your bank account and sometimes ID.
  3. If it later says Stripe needs a few more details before you can take cards, press Finish setting up and complete what's missing.

The same checklist suggests two other quick wins: add your bank details so customers can pay by transfer, and upload your logo, which goes on invoices and the pay page.

Your payouts

The card payments panel shows what's Available, what's On the way, your Next payout and Recent payouts. Stripe pays out to your bank on its own schedule. For anything more detailed, press Open Stripe to see your Stripe dashboard.

To change your bank account or ID details, press Update details in Stripe.

Refunds

Open the customer, find the payment on their money card and press Refund in Stripe. Refunds are made in Stripe, so Stripe's own rules about fees apply.

Disputes

If a customer disputes a card payment with their bank, Stripe emails you and asks for evidence. You respond in Stripe, using Open Stripe. Dates matter, so check your email regularly. Photos from the visit and the visit-done message help your case.

Taking payment another way

Paid you in cash or by cheque? Mark it on the Done sheet on your phone, or use Mark as paid on the dashboard. Cards don't have to be your only way: customers can use whichever you've set up.
